The Bird Man: Greg Miller and The Big Year

Greg Miller, the birding expert portrayed by actor Jack Black in the movie The Big Year will present a free public lecture about his “big year” and the making of the movie, for which he served as the bird expert.

"The Big Year” tells the stories of Miller and two other “birders,” Sandy Komito and Al Levantin, (portrayed in the movie by Owen Wilson and Steve Martin) who competed against each other in 1998 to spot the most species of birds in North America in one year. Miller’s adventure shows him racing across the continent, even to the tip of Alaska, trying to spot rare birds that flew in because of El Nino. Their friendly competition was documented in the book, The Big Year, by Pulitzer Prize winning author Mark Obmascik.
