Civil War Roundtable

Ever since Appomattox, historians, military tacticians, and amateur scholars have been fascinated by the Civil War. Join the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Roundtable on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the library’s Community Room. Each month, a different speaker will provide an engaging and informative look at a particular aspect of the War Between the States. All welcome!

October 10: Author, lecturer, and Civil War reenactor Harold George of Lakewood Ohio will once again be our featured speaker. Harold has been our guest on several occasions including last year’s program on George Armstrong Custer. This month he will present “The Medal of Honor, and it’s strange oddities and unique accomplishments”. The Medal of Honor was first issued during the Civil War in 1863. Since then more than 3,400 have been issued for acts of bravery and heroism,”above and beyond the call of duty”. In a few instances, however, the medal was awarded for rather unique, strange, and less than glorious reasons. This program discusses those instances.

November 14: Once again we will feature round table member Nic Affolter, with a program concerning the Battle of Gettysburg.  With his vast knowledge about the battle and the quality of his previous programs, NIc always brings a unique and fascinating look at this much discussed decisive battle of the Civil War.
