Library card

We have two classes of library cards: a juvenile card for kindergarten through grade 6, and an adult card for grade 7 through adult. To obtain a card, come to the library and fill out an application. You will need a form of identification, e.g. a driver's license, with your current address shown. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade must have their parent or guardian's signature on the application, and the parent or guardian must provide their own I.D. and proof of address to obtain the child's card.

There is no initial fee for your card., but we do charge a $1.00 replacement fee for lost cards. You may also request a P.I.N. (personal identification number) that will allow you to check your account and place reserves via our in-house computer terminals or by accessing our system using a computer and modem in your home. The library card is bar-coded for use with our automated circulation system. YOU MUST PRESENT YOUR CARD TO CHECK OUT MATERIALS! Our library card can only be used in our library, and we cannot honor other libraries' cards.

Loan

Our basic loan period is 14 days. New fiction and new non-fiction books are loaned for a 7-day period. Magazines, audio CD's, and circulable encyclopedias are also loaned for a 7-day period . DVD's and video cassettes may be borrowed for 3 days only. Reference books and newspapers must be used in the library.

Books, books-on-cassette and magazines may be renewed twice, provided no reserves have been placed on the items. CD's, DVD's and video cassettes are not renewable. Renewals may be effected by phone or by a visit to the library.

Materials may be returned during library hours, or, when the library is closed, through the book return located in front of the building.

Reserves

Materials may be reserved via a staff member at the circulation desk, and by accessing the automated circulation system in the library or from your home via computer and modem.

To use the computerized reserve system, please obtain a P.I.N. (personal identification number) from a staff member. Upon selecting an item that you wish to reserve, you will be asked to type in your account number, which is the numeral set directly below the bar code on your library card. Enter the complete account number, then enter your P.I.N. when requested. The reserve is then placed.

If we do not own the book you want, we will try to obtain a copy from another library. There is no charge for this service, but our ILL agreement requires a .50/day overdue fine for these items.

Reserved materials are tracked by computer, and you will receive a call from a staff member as soon as the item is returned to the library.

Fines

The ONLY reason we charge fines is as an incentive to return materials promptly, so that they are available for others to use. Please be considerate of others, and avoid fines by bringing materials back on time.

Our fine schedule is as follows:

Per Day Fines

ITEM REGULAR NEW
Books .05/Day .10/Day
Magazines .05/Day .05/Day
Books On Tape .05/Day .05/Day
Compact Disks .10 Day .10 Day
DVD's .50/Day .50/Day
Video Cassettes .50/Day .50/Day
Encyclopedias .25/Day .25/Day
Juvenile Items .02/Day .02/Day

Our computer system tracks overdue items. We will inform you when an item is overdue, first by phone, then by a mailer that outlines all materials due. Long overdue items not returned to the library will be charged to your account, and you will not be permitted to borrow further materials until the late items have been returned or paid for.

Lost/damaged

We will work with you if you cannot find an item you have borrowed from the library. When it is determined that an item is irretriviably lost or damaged, we will have to charge you for the repair or replacement of the item. The actual charge will depend on whether the item can be repaired, or, in the case of a lost item, you will be charged the price necessary to replace the item.
